Why Coaching?
Coaching has been shown to yield numerous benefits for both individuals and organisations, including improved leadership, higher productivity, enhanced emotional intelligence, better employee engagement, and a strong ROI.
1. Improved Leadership and Performance
A study published in The Journal of Positive Psychology showed that coaching improves leadership effectiveness by enhancing emotional intelligence, communication, and decision-making. The study found that participants who received executive coaching demonstrated improved job performance, better leadership skills, and increased satisfaction at work.
2. Higher Productivity and Goal Achievement
Research from The International Coach Federation (ICF) highlights that coaching contributes to enhanced productivity, goal attainment, and work-life balance. The ICF's 2020 Global Coaching Study reports that 86% of companies that invested in coaching recovered their coaching costs, while 70% experienced improvements in performance, relationships, and job satisfaction.
3. Enhanced Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence
According to a study by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), coaching helps leaders develop self-awareness and emotional regulation, which are critical for success. CCL’s research found that executives who worked with coaches improved their emotional intelligence, which significantly impacted their ability to navigate complex work environments.
4. Employee Engagement and Retention
A report from Harvard Business Review showed that coaching significantly increases employee engagement, and organizations using coaching practices see lower turnover rates. The study indicated that employees who received coaching reported higher engagement levels (53% higher) and were more likely to stay with their companies (32% higher retention rates) than those who didn’t.
5. Reduction in Stress and Burnout
A 2021 study from Frontiers in Psychology explored how coaching interventions reduce stress and prevent burnout. Participants who underwent coaching reported a significant reduction in workplace stress and anxiety, with a 30% decrease in burnout symptoms after three months of regular coaching sessions.
6. Greater Innovation and Creativity
Research from The Institute of Coaching suggests that coaching fosters innovation by helping individuals think more creatively and take calculated risks. The study found that 71% of coached individuals said they felt more empowered to be innovative, citing enhanced problem-solving abilities and greater resilience when faced with challenges.
7. Return on Investment (ROI)
A Manchester Inc. study highlighted coaching's significant return on investment for businesses. The ROI for companies investing in coaching was found to be as high as 600%, with 77% of respondents reporting that coaching had a substantial impact on at least one of nine business measures, such as productivity, employee satisfaction, and profitability.

The short answer is no, therapy and life coaching are different.
Therapy: Primarily focuses on solving problems and difficulties from the past, which are now interfering with current life. Therapy deals with healing pain, dysfunction, conflict, and mental health. Therapy often delves into the past to uncover underlying issues affecting the present.
Coaching: Life coaching is a goal-oriented practice that focuses on helping individuals identify and achieve personal or professional objectives. Coaches work with clients to enhance self-awareness, set realistic goals, and develop actionable plans. The emphasis is on the present and future, fostering positive change and personal growth.

Having a coach you feel comfortable with and trust is important so you can be open and honest. This is why most coaches offer free introductory calls, we want to see results as much as you do! Remember that during an initial consultation, the coach is also making their own assessment about how they can best serve you and that might mean a referral to another coach.

I send out a preparation form which will help you get clear on what you would like to focus on and provide me with useful information so I know what to expect. Come with an intention for the session: what do you want to work on? Is there a situation that triggered you? A conversation that didn’t go the way you wanted it to? Do you want to improve your internal self-talk? Is there a habit you are finding hard to implement? These are just some examples.
It’s your session so you can talk about whatever is most relevant for you. Being open and honest about your feelings and experiences contributes to a more productive session.
